Subclassis Gigantostraca (Подкласс Гигантостраки) = Eurypteroidea (Эвриптероидеи = Эвриптериды = Ракоскорпионы = Морские скорпионы) - Sea scorpions, Eurypterids (En) † - 00125

Genus Mixopterus Kiæri, 1909 †
Species Mixopterus kiari †
This specimen, is around 400 million years old and comes from the Silurian rocks
of Ringerike north of Oslo. It was found by Professor Johan Kiær in 1909.
The rectangular head shows a variety of appendages modified for grasping, mating,
walking and swimming. The long pointed tail of Mixopterus might have been curled
over the back of the animal and used for piercing prey, such as fish, held
between the grasping appendages. The eurypterids lived from the Ordovician to
the Permian and include some of the largest known arthropods up to 2m in length.
