These chromo-lithographic cards were produced and sold in Germany around 1900-1910. I've found evidence that Series 1 was printed at least as early as 1902, but have not been able to confirm the exact printing year for Series 2, although it must have been before 1916, when Series 1a was out. The artist signed the cards F. John, and not much else can be found today about who that person was. The cards were produced by the Reichardt Kakoa company, which probably gave them away with boxes of cocoa. The illustrations are for the most part colorized versions of the work of earlier published material from books and magazines of the day, and many are based on the work of Charles R. Knight's paintings from the American Museum of Natural History. Altogether 5 sets of 30 cards were made, with F. John doing 1 and 2, set 2a was a series of reprints from the earlier sets, and 1a and 3 were original designs by the artist Heinrich Harder. The cards measured 7.5"x10.5" and each set of 30 has it's own folder to store them in. link
Tiere der Urwelt, a series of cards, depicting dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, from Kakao-Compagnie Theodor Reichardt, a German chocolate company.
